Foreign health insurance is mandatory for foreign nationals who want to get a residence permit and residence in Turkey. It is a private health insurance which covers, within the scope of the coverage of foreign nationals during the insurance period specified within the scope of the contract frame 9/2014 on the “circular on private health insurances to be taken out in residence permit requests”, expenses resulting from illness and accidents.
According to the foreigners and international law dated April 11th, 2014, foreigners are required to have at least 1-year health insurance during the application for residence permit. Therefore, foreigners wishing to get residence permit for Turkey are obliged to have health insurance. In addition, foreign nationals who apply for a work permit in Turkey also require to have foreign health insurance.
