The rights granted by a long-term residence permit:

Foreigners with long term residence permit; except for the obligation to perform military service, right to elect and be elected, entering public service and importing vehicles with exemption, and without prejudice to their rights regarding social security, they can benefit from the rights granted to Turkish citizens.

What are the reasons for Rejection, Cancellation or Non-Extension of Long Term Residence Permit?

• The foreigner poses a serious threat to the public order or public security,
• Expect for educational, medical purposes or carrying out a mandatory public service in the home country, being outside of Turkey without interruption for more than a year. In these cases, long-term residence permit shall be canceled.

The cancellation of the long-term residence permit is carried out by the governorates.

Re-applications of foreigners whose long-term residence permits have been canceled

Re-applications for the canceled long-term residence permits are made to the consulates abroad, or to the governorship in the province where the foreigner is located, in person or in accordance with the application procedure determined by our General Directorate.

Residing in Turkey for at least eight years is not a prerequisite for the re-applications. These applications are being considered as a priority and finalized within a month at the latest.

These foreigners whose their residence permits have been cancelled due to reasons other than educational, medical reasons or carrying out a mandatory public service in the home country may re-apply to get the permit.
